Don't Show Update External Links Dialog While Opening Files With VBA

Don't show update external links dialog with VBA

What This VBA Code Does

You are most likely reading this article because you thought turning off ScreenUpdating and DisplayAlerts would prevent any and all message boxes from appearing while your VBA code runs. WRONG! If your code is opening up Excel files with external links, you will still get a prompt to “update external links”. Lucky for you, I ran into this issue as well and here is how I solved it:

VBA Code:

Sub OpenWithoutLinkPrompt()
'PURPOSE: Don't update links while opening file

'Use optional UpdateLinks Property to suppress the dialog box
  Application.Workbooks.Open _
    Filename:="C:\FileWithExternalLinks.xlsx", _

End Sub
